Description
Job Title: SEMH Teacher
Location: Sutton, SM5
Salary: Paid to scale
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: Monday 22nd September
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people facing significant challenges?
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teacher to join our specialist team at one of our amazing primary schools, a nurturing yet dynamic setting for students with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs. This is more than a teaching role – it’s a chance to transform lives.
About the Role:
You will work with a small group of students who require a high level of emotional support and behavioural guidance. Many of our pupils exhibit challenging behaviours and some are highly dependent, requiring tailored strategies to help them access the curriculum and build essential life skills.
Your role will involve:
• Delivering creative, differentiated lessons that meet individual needs.
• Supporting pupils in developing self-regulation, resilience, and social skills.
• Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, TAs, and pastoral staff.
• Managing behaviour positively, consistently, and effectively.
• Being a calm, strong, and compassionate presence in a sometimes-unpredictable environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) – or relevant teaching qualification.
• Experience working with students with SEMH needs or within an alternative provision.
• Exceptional behaviour management skills and a trauma-informed approach.
• The ability to build trust and strong, respectful relationships with young people.
• A sense of humour, patience, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.
Why Join Us?
• A highly supportive and experienced team.
• Access to ongoing CPD and specialist training (e.g., de-escalation, trauma-informed practice).
• Opportunities for progression and leadership.
• A chance to make a real impact every single day.
