The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Support students aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Work 1:1 or in small groups to promote engagement and positive behaviour
• Implement behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies
• Help students regulate emotions and develop coping skills
• Support learning both inside and outside the classroom
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
Many students may have additional needs such as ADHD, autism, trauma backgrounds, or challenging behaviour. Experience in similar settings is highly desirable.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for individuals who:
• Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
• Are calm, patient, and resilient
• Have strong behaviour management skills
• Can build rapport quickly and maintain professional boundaries
• Have experience in PRUs, specialist schools, youth work, care, or support roles (desirable)
