Description

Axcis Education is recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a specialist primary SEND school in Skelmersdale on a long-term basis from September. This is an excellent opportunity for passionate and resilient individuals looking to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and help them achieve positive educational outcomes.

If you have experience working with children with SEND, SEMH, or challenging behaviour, and are looking for a rewarding Teaching Assistant job in Skelmersdale, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support primary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within the classroom.

The school primarily supports children with:
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Learning difficulties

Some pupils may display behaviours that challenge, so previous experience with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies is essential.

You may also have the opportunity to provide 1:1 support for individual pupils, building strong relationships and delivering tailored interventions to meet their needs.

About the School

This welcoming specialist SEND school in Skelmersdale supports approximately 50 primary-aged pupils, creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child receives personalised support.

The school offers:
• Small class sizes of just 6–12 pupils
• A supportive and experienced leadership team
• A strong focus on emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour support
• Opportunities to develop lasting relationships with pupils
• Excellent prospects for permanent employment

Working Hours & Pay
• Full-time position
• Monday to Friday
• 8:45am – 4:00pm
• Long-term role starting September
• Excellent opportunity to secure a permanent contract
• Pay from £14.25 per hour

Candidate Requirements

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will have:
• Experience supporting children in a school, SEND, SEMH, or care setting, or supporting vulnerable adults with additional needs
• A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
• Experience managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
• Knowledge of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
• Team Teach or similar de-escalation training (desirable but not essential)
• A resilient, patient, and proactive approach
• A strong work ethic and full-time availability
