SEN Learning Support Assistant – Summertown, Oxford | Full-Time
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Location: Summertown, Oxford
Role: SEN Learning Support Assistant
Are you patient, resilient and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning?
SENDhelp is looking for a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Summertown, Oxford. This is a fantastic full-time opportunity to become an important part of a supportive SEN environment where relationships, consistency and celebrating every child's progress are at the heart of the school day.
Whether you already have experience within SEND or you're looking to develop your career in specialist education, this SEN Learning Support Assistant role offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference every day.
About the Children You'll Support
The school supports primary-aged children aged 5–11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with pupils having an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Some children also have additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Many pupils may have experienced challenges within education previously and benefit from a smaller, highly supportive environment where adults take the time to understand their individual needs.
As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you'll help children develop academically, socially and emotionally, building positive relationships and helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
Your Role as an SEN Learning Support Assistant
Working alongside teachers and other SEND professionals, your key responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual pupils and their EHCP outcomes.
Supporting children with SEMH, autism and additional learning needs throughout the school day.
Helping pupils engage with classroom activities and access learning successfully.
Using positive behaviour and emotional-regulation strategies to support pupils during challenging moments.
Building consistent, trusting relationships while encouraging confidence and independence.
Supporting children's social, emotional and academic development.
Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals to provide consistent support.
Helping maintain a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment.
Who Are We Looking For?
We're looking for an SEN Learning Support Assistant who is compassionate, reliable and able to recognise the potential behind every child's individual needs.
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASD, challenging behaviour or SEND would be highly beneficial. However, transferable experience from youth work, care, mentoring, sports coaching or similar environments may also be valuable.
Most importantly, you'll need to be patient, resilient, consistent and positive, with the ability to build strong relationships with children who may need additional time and support to develop trust.
