SEN Teaching Assistant / Youth Worker – Complex Needs & SEMH
Location: Knowsley
Contract: Full-Time | Part-Time

Are you an exceptional individual with the passion, resilience and empathy needed to support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? This setting supports students with a combination of complex needs, communication barriers and sensitive social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges — and they are looking for someone who can help their pupils thrive.

About the Role

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a life-changing difference. You will provide consistent 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils develop confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing. Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and caregivers, you will play a vital part in creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where every child feels valued and understood.

Your role will include:
• Supporting students with complex needs, SEMH, Autism, sensory needs and communication differences
• Monitoring engagement, progress, behaviour and overall wellbeing
• Building trusting relationships that encourage pupils to express themselves safely
• Contributing to personalised support plans and behaviour strategies
• Promoting positive choices, resilience and emotional regulation
• Engaging learners in a wide range of creative and practical activities such as music, food tech, photography, sports and animal care

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is compassionate, calm under pressure and genuinely enthusiastic about supporting vulnerable young people. We welcome individuals from SEN, youth work, residential care or alternative provision backgrounds.

You will bring:
• Strong understanding of SEMH, Autism, sensory needs and challenging behaviour
• Patience, empathy and the ability to model positive behaviour
• Flexibility and adaptability when supporting a wide spectrum of needs, including non-verbal communication, hearing impairments and complex emotional needs
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• A nurturing approach that helps students feel safe, heard and respected

Requirements
• A valid DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
• References from your most recent employers
• Experience supporting young people with SEN or complex needs (desirable but not essential)
