SEND Learning Support Assistant (1:1)
Location: DA8
Hours: Monday to Friday | 8.30am – 3.00pm or 9.00am – 3.30pm
Contract: Term-time only
We are seeking a confident and dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive SEN College in Erith (DA8). This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 support to a male student with additional needs and some challenging behaviours.
About the Role
You will be supporting a bright and capable student who is currently reintegrating into college following a period of absence and working to a reduced timetable. The student is non-verbal and communicates using an AAC device. He has good understanding, is able to follow instructions, and benefits from structure, routine and clear expectations.
The successful candidate will be calm, consistent and resilient, with the ability to implement structured strategies and maintain firm boundaries.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the college day
Implement a TEACCH-based approach, including structured tasks and visual support
Use Now/Next strategies to support transitions
Incorporate regular movement breaks to support regulation
Manage and respond appropriately to challenging behaviours
Build a positive and professional working relationship
Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have previous experience supporting young people with SEND
Be confident supporting students with communication needs, including AAC
Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills
Be patient, resilient and able to maintain clear, firm boundaries
Have a calm and professional manner
