SEN Teaching Assistant - Sensory Class

• Autism
• Moderate to severe learning difficulties
• Speech, language and communication needs
• Complex learning and developmental needs

The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant within the Sensory Class, you will support pupils who may be:
• Pre-verbal or non-verbal communicators
• Working at an early developmental stage
• Requiring sensory-based learning approaches
• Experiencing emotional dysregulation and requiring consistent support
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing individual and small-group support throughout the school day
• Supporting pupils to engage with sensory and communication-based learning activities
• Assisting with personal care and daily living skills where required
• Using positive behaviour support strategies and Team Teach approaches
• Encouraging communication, social interaction, and independence
• Working closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to support individual learning goals
• Helping to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment

• Has experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ASD, or complex needs
• Is patient, calm, and empathetic
• Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Is confident supporting individuals with communication difficulties
• Remains resilient and adaptable when managing challenging behaviours
• Is committed to promoting inclusion, dignity, and respect for all learners
• Has a genuine passion for helping young people achieve their full potential
