Description

Axcis Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEND school in Blackburn that is seeking qualified SEND teachers to join their team on a long-term basis. These roles are initially to cover an absence until the end of term, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.

The positions are full-time, working Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. However, candidates who are only available part-time are still encouraged to apply, as there may be other opportunities available within the school.

Teaching responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of the pupils within each class. The school supports both primary and secondary-aged students with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism, PMLD, SLD, complex medical needs, sensory impairments, and physical disabilities. Due to the diverse needs across the school, successful applicants will have the flexibility to work in a setting that best matches their skills and experience.

The school offers excellent on-site facilities, including multiple sensory rooms, hydrotherapy, a 4D sensory studio, and extensive outdoor spaces for pupils to access.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, prepare, and deliver personalised lessons aligned with each student’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
• Create a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that supports students with ASD, PMLD, SLD, and complex medical needs
• Monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching approaches where necessary
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers, and external professionals to support pupil development and wellbeing
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to ensure a holistic approach to student support

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent; SEND experience is desirable, though applications from mainstream teachers are welcomed
• A valid child and adult DBS registered on the update service (Axcis can assist with a new application if required)
• Experience teaching pupils with SEND, particularly Autism, PMLD, SLD, and complex medical needs
• A patient, empathetic approach and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND
