SEND Teaching Assistant (Primary) – 1:1 Support (ASD)
Start: ASAP
Location: Haringey N17
Contract: Full-time, term time only
We are looking for a caring, proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child in our primary school who has a diagnosis of ASD. This is an ASAP start and will be a full-time role.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 support to the pupil throughout the school day (in class and during transitions)
• Use PECS and other visual supports to facilitate communication and understanding
• Support the development of early language and communication, encouraging the use of words where appropriate
• Plan and engage in creative activities (e.g. drawing and painting) that help access learning and regulate
• Promote positive behaviour, using clear boundaries, and support
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals to follow and contribute to the pupil’s individual support plan
• Record observations and progress and share feedback with staff and parents/carers as needed
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience working with children with ASD (school, nursery, care or similar setting)
• Is confident using or willing to learn PECS and other communication systems
• Is patient, calm and consistent, with a genuine passion for supporting children with SEN
• Can follow behaviour and support plans, and think on their feet when things change
• Is creative, positive and able to build a warm, trusting relationship with the pupil
