Teaching assistant

Here at Axcis Education, we are recruiting for full-time and part-time teaching assistants to work with students aged 5-11 with additional needs at a mainstream primary school in the Preston area. Some of the students in this school have a range of special needs such as autism and ADHD. Pay rates begin at £13.69 per hour and may increase depending on experience. Transport links are offered from Preston city centre and surrounding areas, and free parking is provided on site.  

You will be required to work with the pupils in a range of lessons and support the teacher in the delivery of engaging activities. The candidate ideally would need experience working with children with ASD and ADHD. The role will start as soon as possible and candidates applying for this role must be available to work 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday. 

The ideal candidate will have: 

•	Brilliant communication skills, empathy and patience 
•	An Enhanced DBS check on the update service (if you do not have this, we can guide you through the process)  
•	Prior classroom-based experience and/or experience working with people with SEND

This particular role is based in an SEN school, more commonly known as a Special Needs School. They are looking for someone who can effectively work closely with their younger students in their primary/ secondary site. For this role you’ll likely be working with different students throughout the day and possibly be involved in some personal care i.e. changing nappies and feeding. 

About the School: 
•	The ages there range from 2-16 and they have a post 16 site which ranges from 16-19. It is a smaller site with classroom sizes of 8-10 students with 4-5 Teaching Assistants per class. 

•	This setting really promotes students independence and engages them in creative learning. Each student will have specialised, individual learning pathways that focus on promoting communication, independence, self-care and cognition alongside their personalised academic learning.

•	The school has many therapeutic and sensory environments including sensory rooms, hydrotherapy pool, soft play areas and dark rooms to help their students thrive. 

Most students in this school will have one of the following disabilities: 
•	Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) – significant cognitive delays impacting academic learning and everyday functioning.

•	Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) – complex needs involving severe intellectual disability plus physical and medical support requirements.

•	Additional disabilities such as:
• Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASD), including associated behaviours and communication needs.
• Sensory impairments (visual or hearing difficulties).
• Epilepsy and other medical conditions.
• Challenging behaviours often linked with communication or sensory needs.

The school provides an excellent learning environment designed specifically to meet the needs of its learners which fall within the KS2 and KS3 age brackets of 7 years to 14 years. 

This is a small school with a strong sense of team, comprising of 6 small classes of learners; it is of utmost importance that collaboration with colleagues and strong communication is held as a priority to ensure that the learners develop in all areas of life.

The learners attending this school have very individual and profound needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation, personal care needs and distressing/challenging behaviour and therefore the school does require a teaching assistant who is well experienced in supporting the above needs.

Job Details
•	Whole class support but working on a 1:1 or small group basis
•	Working closely with profoundly autistic learners with more specific needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation, personal care needs and distressing/challenging behaviour
