Description

An established international financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its in-house Legal Team. Reporting directly to the Group Head of Legal, this is a senior and varied position covering alternative investment funds, corporate law, financial services regulation, data protection and commercial contracts.

The successful candidate will provide commercially focused legal advice across the business, oversee the work of other Legal Team members and contribute to a range of strategic projects and initiatives.

For this search, applications are particularly welcomed from candidates who are already based in Jersey or the UK and who possess strong expertise in both funds and corporate law.

Key Responsibilities
• Providing expert legal advice in relation to alternative investment funds, corporate matters, financial services regulation, data protection and commercial contracts.
• Overseeing and supporting the work of other members of the Legal Team.
• Working collaboratively with internal business teams and support functions, including Finance, Compliance and Risk.
• Representing the organisation in negotiations with clients, suppliers and other third parties.
• Monitoring legislative, regulatory and industry developments affecting the alternative investment funds sector.
• Assessing the potential impact of legal and regulatory changes on the organisation and its activities.
• Promoting awareness across the business of relevant legal and regulatory obligations.
• Reviewing and streamlining existing legal documentation, corporate policies and precedents.
• Representing the Legal Team in group-wide projects and strategic initiatives.
• Working closely with the Group Head of Legal on complex matters and wider departmental priorities.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, supported by strong academic credentials.
• Admission as a solicitor with at least 10 years’ post-qualification experience.
• Strong and demonstrable expertise in funds and corporate law.
• Considerable experience advising on financial services regulation and alternative investment funds.
• A combination of in-house experience within a financial services organisation and legal experience gained with a top-tier law firm serving international clients.
• The ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage complex projects and teams within demanding deadlines.
• The ability to identify and prioritise key issues while adapting quickly to changing circumstances.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills.
• Good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.
