Are you local to Pilning or South Gloucestershire? Do you believe young people deserve to be seen, heard and supported — especially those with moderate learning difficulties (MLD), Autism Spectrum Condition, or mental health needs? We are looking for someone just like you.

The Role
Based at a specialist provision for learners aged 7 up to 19, supporting social, emotional, mental health and challenging behaviour

You will mentor, coach, and support students through structured activities (especially sports), behaviour support plans, and therapeutic interventions. You’ll help them feel safe, grow in confidence, and work on independence for adult life.

About the School
• Mixed independent special school in Pilning, South Gloucestershire, with capacity for 60+ students aged 7-19.

• Inspected by Ofsted in March 2022, rated Good overall. Personal development was judged Outstanding, and behaviour & attitudes are particularly praised.

• Curriculum built by “stage not age”, heavily personalised; strong focus on social, emotional support, therapy and preparing students for life after school.

• Facilities include sensory rooms, outdoor learning, and specialist therapy teams.

Who We’re Looking For
You might be a graduate, youth worker, sports coach, support worker or teaching assistant. It doesn’t matter whether you have all the experience — what matters most is your values, personality and motivation. We want someone who:

• treats every young person with respect, kindness and patience

• thrives in working with challenging behaviour, staying calm, consistent and positive

• believes every student deserves a chance to learn, grow and belong

• is keen to learn, collaborate and use individualised approaches

Practical Requirements
• Must have (or be willing to obtain) a DBS, or be happy to have one arranged via Axcis

• Must drive, or be able to cycle/walk from Severn Banks train station, as the location is rural and not always well-served by public transport
