Student Teaching Assistant – Flexible, Part-Time Roles in mainstream and SEND Schools
Location: Across Bristol and surrounding areas
Salary: Competitive hourly/daily rate (PAYE)
Contract Type: Part-Time & Flexible (Term-Time Only)

Axcis Education is looking for enthusiastic Student Teaching Assistants to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in schools across Bristol. If you're studying education, psychology, social care or a related degree, this is a flexible, paid opportunity to gain valuable experience around your university timetable.

What Does the Role Involve?
You’ll work on a supply basis in a variety of SEND school settings, including specialist schools, resource bases and alternative provisions. Each day offers something new and rewarding.

As a Student Teaching Assistant, your duties may include:

Supporting pupils with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, learning difficulties or emotional and behavioural challenges

Working 1:1 or with small groups, both in and outside the classroom

Helping students to stay focused, understand tasks, and regulate their emotions

Using strategies like visual supports, sensory tools or simplified communication systems (full training provided)

Encouraging independence, confidence and positive relationships with staff and peers

Assisting with daily routines, including transitions and breaks

Occasionally supporting personal care needs where required (with full guidance and support)

You’ll have a chance to work with experienced teachers and support staff, gaining first-hand insight into therapeutic approaches, behaviour support strategies and inclusive education.

Undergraduate or postgraduate students in education, psychology, SEN, social care or youth studies

Students with experience in care, volunteering, tutoring or mentoring

Individuals with a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs

Calm, compassionate and reliable, with a desire to learn and grow in the education sector

Requirements
A positive and adaptable attitude

Willingness to travel locally to schools

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
