Axcis is currently supporting an ASD-specific all-age special school in the Handsworth area. The school is undergoing the process of going from being a primary school to all-age, they currently have children from Reception, through to Year 9.
With the growth of the school comes the growth of the staff team and therefore Axcis are supporting them with the recruitment of their permanent staff. All roles start off on a temporary basis with a view to being a offered a permanent contract after an extended trial period.
As a teaching assistant at this school you will be supporting very complex individuals with a lead diagnosis of Autism (ASD) and a range range of additional needs such as sensory processing, challenging behaviour and communication delays including non/pre-verbal communication.
Whilst previous experience of SEND support within the classroom environment is highly desirable is isn't essential, the school will also consider applicants with personal life experience and/or professional experience from the health and/or social care sector.
Job details:
• Supporting complex Autistic pupils with additional needs such as sensory processing, challenging behaviour and communication delays including non-verbal communication
• Working on a one to one and small group basis
• Full time (8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Ongoing basis, starting ASAP, potential to move onto a permanent contract
Requirements:
• Experience of supporting individuals with Autism including sensory processing, challenging behaviour and communication delays including non-verbal communication - Essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 references covering the past 12 months – Essential
