Description
Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? Axcis Education is working with a supportive and inclusive primary school in South Bristol (BS13) to recruit a full-time Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 pupil with High-Functioning Autism (HFA).
This long-term role begins in September 2025 (Term 1) and runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, term-time only. It’s a fantastic opportunity for someone with a calm, nurturing approach who wants to make a real impact.
About the Role:
• Provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with High-Functioning Autism (HFA), focusing on their academic progress, communication, and emotional regulation
• Use structured routines, visual aids, and predictable strategies to support a sense of safety and stability
• Assist the pupil with social interaction and sensory needs, using the school’s dedicated SEND base for moments of dysregulation
• Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt tasks and help the pupil access the curriculum
• Support the development of independence, confidence, and positive relationships
What We’re Looking For:
• A patient and empathetic approach, with the ability to remain calm when supporting a child through emotional regulation challenges
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• An understanding of the importance of routine, structure, and flexibility in supporting autistic pupils
• Excellent communication skills for working with both the pupil and wider school team
• Previous experience working with pupils on the autism spectrum (especially HFA) is highly desirable, but we also welcome applications from candidates with the right attitude and willingness to learn
Why Join This School?
• Be part of a caring and inclusive team committed to SEND best practice
• Work in a school that offers a calm, structured base for pupils who need time away from the classroom
• Enjoy a rewarding, long-term role where you can build strong relationships and see the direct impact of your support
• Located in BS13, easily accessible from surrounding areas of South Bristol
