The Role:
A lovely specialist school in Skelmersdale is looking for full-time teaching assistants to work with children or young people from 11-19 years. The school provides an inclusive education for students with a range of complex needs, including PMLD, autism and severe learning disabilities. This role would be well suited to those coming from a care background, due to the SEND requirements and needs of the children. Ideally you will have prior experience working with children or young adults, though this is not essential.
As a school care assistant you must be open to supporting with personal care and swimming. You may be required to work across several age groups so flexibility is essential. The school is looking for new school care assistants to start in January, and will consider permanent contracts for staff who succeed in their role.

A successful teaching assistant will have the following:
- Experience working in a special school or care setting
- Knowledge of severe learning disabilities and profound and multiple learning disabilities – experience working with children or adults with these needs
- Training or experience in non-verbal communication (PECS, Makaton), hoisting and movement and handling (desirable)
- A willingness to carry out personal care
- A proactive and enthusiastic attitude
- Be reliable and consistent
- Be available during the working hours 8.30am – 3.30pm and able to commit to a full-time role (term-time only)
