Salary: £89 – £95 per day (PAYE), depending on experience
A welcoming and inclusive secondary school is seeking a committed Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support for students with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) starting this September. This full-time position is ideal for someone with a calm, nurturing approach who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve steady academic progress.
The role will involve working closely with students who require support with reading, writing, numeracy, processing skills, and social understanding. Assistance may take place within the classroom, in small group settings, or through one-to-one interventions, helping to reinforce understanding and promote independence.
Key responsibilities include:
• Supporting the delivery of differentiated lessons in line with students’ needs
• Encouraging participation and engagement with the curriculum
• Helping students to develop social skills, confidence, and resilience
• Monitoring progress and supporting with personalised learning targets
• Collaborating with SENCOs, teachers, and external agencies where appropriate
Desirable experience and attributes:
• Previous experience supporting individuals with MLD, global developmental delay, or processing difficulties
• Familiarity with adaptive teaching strategies and visual supports
• Understanding of EHCPs and SEND Code of Practice
• A patient, consistent approach to supporting learners who may lack confidence or need repetition
• Experience within a school, college, or youth-based setting is advantageous
