Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Secondary (SEMH & Behaviour Support)
Location: Nailsea
Pay Rate: £92.00 – £109.00 per day
Job Type: Full-time – Term Time Only (Temporary or Long-term)
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday)

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a committed and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a well-established secondary school in Nailsea, supporting students who require additional behavioural and emotional support to succeed.

About the Role:

This is a rewarding and varied role supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4, both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. You will work closely with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour and SEMH needs, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life.

The school is a large, inclusive secondary setting with a strong focus on student wellbeing, personal development, and academic success. It offers a modern learning environment designed to promote openness, safety, and engagement, alongside a wide range of specialist facilities and resources to support student development.

You will play a key role in building positive relationships, supporting emotional regulation, and helping students overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
• Support students in accessing lessons, staying engaged, and managing their behaviour
• Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage positive choices and emotional development
• Implement behaviour support strategies and follow individual support plans
• Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams
• Support students during transitions, breaktimes, and throughout the school day
• Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
• Maintain accurate records and uphold safeguarding and confidentiality at all times

• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
