Description
Are you passionate about supporting children who need extra guidance and care? We are looking for a resilient, reliable and genuinely committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 2 pupil with SEND and SEMH needs at a welcoming primary school in Ilminster.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building strong relationships, stays calm under pressure, and gets real satisfaction from helping young people feel secure, understood and able to learn.
About the School Setting:
This inclusive primary school sits at the heart of the Ilminster community and serves children from a range of backgrounds. It prides itself on offering a broad, holistic curriculum that supports pupils academically and socially, helping them develop confidence, resilience and care for others. The school was judged Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection, with positive reports on behaviour, personal development and leadership. Pupils are supported to learn with respect and kindness at the core of everyday life.
The school also has a well-established approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring pupils are supported to access learning and grow as individuals with dignity and encouragement.
The Role – What You’ll Be Doing:
• Providing 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with SEMH and SEND needs
• Helping the pupil regulate emotions, manage behaviour and stay engaged in learning
• Supporting access to the curriculum in class and during structured activities
• Working closely with teachers and the SEN team to follow agreed strategies
• Offering patient, nurturing support that builds trust and confidence
This role requires emotional resilience and a calm, dependable approach. The right person will be comfortable supporting challenging behaviours while maintaining a positive, encouraging presence.
We’re seeking someone who:
• Has experience supporting young people with SEMH or SEND needs
• Is calm, consistent and emotionally resilient
• Builds strong, trusting relationships with children
• Is reliable and responsive to individual needs
This role is perfect for someone with experience in support work, youth services, SEND support, or anyone who has worked with children in care, sports coaching, or similar environments and who is now ready to step into a dedicated school support role.
If you are passionate about helping a child thrive and want a role where your impact really counts, we’d love to hear from you.
