Description

Axcis Education are delighted to be working with a large SEND school in Blackburn, who are searching for Teaching Assistants to join their team in September 2025. There are full time and part time positions available. The hours of work are 8.30am-3.30pm, though there are a limited number of positions available with 9am-3pm as the working hours. The school will consider permanent contracts for those who succeed in their role.

The school caters for students aged between 4 and 19 with a range of additional needs. You would predominantly be working with autism across the spectrum, learning disabilities and complex needs. Personal care would be required as part of the role. This role would suit applicants coming from a care work background due to the SEND requirements of the role

The roles are based in a well-regarded SEND school, which was rated as ‘good’ in it’s most recent OFSTED inspection. Class sizes are small, with less than 10 pupils per class. Each class is self-contained with access to an outdoor area for the children to use, as well as a small kitchen and breakout rooms for the children to use when overstimulated. The school has excellent facilities, including numerous sensory rooms and utilities. There are good public transport links within walking distance of the school, as well a large car park on site.

A successful teaching assistant will have the following:
• Experience working in a special school or care setting
• Knowledge of severe learning disabilities and profound and multiple learning disabilities
• Experience working with children or adults with these needs
• Training or experience in non-verbal communication (PECS, Makaton), hoisting and movement and handling (desirable)
• A willingness to carry out personal care
• A proactive and enthusiastic attitude
• Be reliable and consistent

Pay starts from £13.69 per hour. If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with complex needs and are looking for a rewarding role within a supportive and inclusive school community, we would love to hear from you.
