Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SEMH Specialist, 1:1 Support
Location: Bolton, Greater Manchester
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our education team in Bolton, Greater Manchester, to provide one-to-one support for pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning, possess exceptional patience, and demonstrate the ability to build positive and supportive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with individual pupils, providing tailored support to meet their emotional, social, and educational needs.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of individualized learning activities and interventions under the direction of the lead teacher.
- Monitor and record the pupil's progress, ensuring any concerns are communicated effectively to the lead teacher and SENCO.
- Implement behaviour management strategies, in line with school policies, to encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
- Offer emotional support to pupils experiencing a range of challenges, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for learning.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to plan and coordinate support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Facilitate the inclusion of pupils in classroom activities and promote social interaction with their peers.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions to continuously develop your skills and knowledge in supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
Qualifications and Skills:
- NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification is desired.
- Prior experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH or additional learning needs, is highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and commitment to the safety and welfare of children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues, engage with pupils, and liaise with parents.
- Capability to handle challenging situations with resilience and maintain a calm and positive demeanor.
- A proactive and flexible approach to working with children of different ages and learning abilities.
