Axcis Education is recruiting a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Exeter, supporting children in care with attachment disorder and complex emotional needs.
This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about helping vulnerable young people overcome barriers to learning. Your role will be to build trusting relationships, nurture self-esteem and confidence, and support pupils to engage in education while developing strategies to regulate their emotions.
You'll become a positive role model and mentor, helping pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

Each classroom is designed to feel welcoming and engaging, with books, games, and sensory resources readily available. Teaching is delivered in a relaxed, therapeutic way, with lessons tailored to each child's individual needs on a 1:1 basis.
Although every pupil has dedicated support throughout the school day, Teaching Assistants rotate between pupils to promote healthy relationships and prevent dependency, ensuring every child benefits from a consistent and balanced support network.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through games, enrichment activities, and community outreach programmes, giving pupils opportunities to build confidence and develop essential life skills in real-world settings.
Your Responsibilities
• Build positive, trusting relationships with children in care.
• Support pupils with attachment disorder and emotional regulation.
• Encourage confidence, resilience, and engagement in learning.
• Assist pupils during 1:1 lessons and therapeutic activities.
• Support behaviour using a calm, nurturing, and trauma-informed approach.
• Accompany pupils on community visits, educational trips, and enrichment activities.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider school team to meet each child's individual needs.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable children and young people.
• Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient.
• Experienced working with children, young people, or individuals with additional needs (desirable but not essential).
• Able to build strong professional relationships and act as a positive role model.
• Comfortable working as part of a supportive team.
• A full UK driver with access to a vehicle, as driving is essential for community-based activities.
