Description

Are you someone who enjoys supporting young people and wants to make a real difference in a local school? We’re looking for a friendly, patient and reliable Teaching Assistant to join a well-regarded secondary school in North Somerset. This full-time role begins in January and becomes permanent after a 16-week settling-in period.

You’ll be based in mainstream classrooms, offering support to pupils with SEMH needs, autism and learning disabilities. The school is known for its welcoming atmosphere, strong pastoral care and positive relationships between staff and students. Its most recent Ofsted report rated it Good, highlighting the calm environment, respectful culture and high expectations that help pupils feel safe and valued.

You’ll join a school that:

• Has a positive behaviour culture where bullying and disruption are rare
• Places great value on inclusion, wellbeing and strong relationships
• Encourages pupils to engage fully in school life and achieve their best
• Balances ambitious academic standards with excellent pastoral support

Your day-to-day work will involve:

• Helping students engage in lessons and stay on track
• Supporting emotional regulation and offering calm reassurance
• Building trusting relationships with pupils who may need extra care
• Working closely with teachers and support staff to meet individual needs

Who we’re looking for:

This role is ideal for confident graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, support workers or anyone hoping to build a career in education or young people’s mental health. Experience with young people is helpful — but your personality, values and motivations are the most important things. If you’re kind, reliable, adaptable and eager to support vulnerable young people, you’ll fit in well.

Key details:

• Full-time, Monday to Friday
• 8:30am – 3:30pm
• £13.70 per hour
• Starts January
• Permanent after 16 weeks

This is meaningful, rewarding work where you can genuinely change a young person’s day — and often their future. If you’re looking for a role with purpose in a supportive school community, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
