Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Andover, Hampshire

Job Type: Full-time, Secondary

Specialism: ASC and SEMH.

Pay Rate: £90 per day

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Teaching Assistant to join a friendly secondary school team in Andover, Hampshire. The successful applicant will provide tailored support to students with ASC and SEMH needs, helping them to achieve their full academic and social potential.

Key Responsibilities:

- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students with ASC to assist in their learning and understanding of the curriculum.
- Adapt teaching materials and methods to meet the needs of individuals with a variety of learning challenges.
- Monitor and track the progress of students, providing feedback and suggesting adaptations to individual learning plans as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to develop and implement educational plans tailored to the needs of each student.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively by establishing and maintaining clear structures and routines.
- Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them develop coping strategies and social skills.
- Assist with the inclusion of students in mainstream classes by offering targeted support.
- Support students during break times and lunchtimes, ensuring a safe and supportive social environment.
- Attend and contribute to meetings and training sessions as part of ongoing professional development.
- Help facilitate communication between students with ASC and their peers, fostering an inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Relevant experience supporting children or young adults with ASC or SEND in an educational setting.
- A patient, caring, and flexible approach to working with students with additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other professionals.
- A good understanding of safeguarding practices and the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification is preferred, but not essential.
