Teaching Assistant (Learning Mentor) – Specialist SEMH Provision – Oldham

We are seeking a committed Teaching Assistant (Learning Mentor) to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision in Oldham for a full academic year. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people who require additional support to engage positively with their education.
The provision supports students who experience a wide range of SEMH needs, including anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, and behavioural challenges. The successful candidate will help create a safe, structured and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive emotionally and academically.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide individual and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.
• Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage positive engagement.
• Deliver and assist with tailored interventions and support plans.
• Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour strategies.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals.
• Support students throughout lessons, transitions and daily routines.
• Contribute to progress tracking, assessments, and regular reviews.

Requirements
• Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges.
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach to behaviour management.
• Strong communication, de-escalation and relationship-building skills.
• Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic specialist setting.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
