The Technical Design / Project Engineer is responsible for the technical design, coordination, and delivery of high-quality audio-visual systems across multiple projects. This role bridges design, project management, installation, and commissioning teams to ensure AV solutions are fully functional, compliant with industry standards, and aligned with client and end-user requirements.
You will take ownership of the technical design process, producing detailed documentation, coordinating with allied trades, and providing expert technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Skills & Experience
• Extensive technical knowledge of professional audio-visual systems and equipment from leading manufacturers.
• Strong understanding of audio-visual standards, best practices, and system design methodologies.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, producing coordinated technical drawings including M&E layouts, elevations, and schematics.
• Current knowledge of the AV marketplace, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
• Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and AV-over-IP principles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Strong problem-solving, fault-finding, and analytical skills.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word; experience with Visio is desirable but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop detailed AV design documentation using AutoCAD, coordinating AV requirements with architectural, M&E, IT, and construction teams.
• Review project scopes and design intent to ensure system functionality meets client, consultant, and end-user requirements.
• Produce rack layouts detailing space allocation, power requirements, heat dissipation (BTU), and serviceability.
• Design custom metalwork solutions including input plates, wall boxes, brackets, and bespoke mounting solutions.
• Work closely with Project Managers to coordinate AV installation activities within the wider construction programme.
• Identify, document, and communicate site requirements, including IT, facilities management, and third-party dependencies.
• Communicate system intent, functionality, and design details to commissioning engineers and installation teams.
• Liaise with third-party trades and subcontractors to ensure seamless system integration.
• Support system testing, commissioning, and witness testing, ensuring systems meet performance and functional requirements.
• Verify that specified equipment is correct, compliant, and suitable for each installation.
• Produce detailed system schematics covering audio, video, control, network, and power infrastructure.
• Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from design through handover.
• Attend project meetings both on-site and via video conferencing platforms.
• Review project variations, assessing technical, commercial, and functional impacts, and provide clear recommendations.
• Attend industry trade shows and manufacturer events to evaluate emerging technologies and share insights with the wider team.

• Experience working on multiple vertical sectors: corporate, education, healthcare, or large-scale commercial AV projects.
• Strong team collaboration skills, with a willingness to share experience and contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and processes within the team.
