Description

Axcis Education are currently working in partnership with an all-through specialist school that supports over 100 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of the young people may experience anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties, behavioural challenges or self-harm, and all pupils have an EHCP relating to SEMH.

The school is committed to providing a safe, caring and structured environment where students can build trust, form positive relationships, and develop emotional resilience.

The provision is guided by research-based SEMH approaches, including clear routines and consistent, calm boundaries, strong and attentive relationships where every voice and non-verbal cue is valued, and solution-focused support with reflective safe spaces available.

The Role

We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Youth Mental Health Support Workers to join a welcoming and inclusive team. The role involves working on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, offering tailored support, guidance and encouragement to help pupils thrive both emotionally and academically.

Both short-term and long-term opportunities are available, depending on your availability and preferences.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide 1:1 emotional or therapeutic support adapted to individual pupil needs. You will support or co-lead small group sessions focused on wellbeing, emotional regulation or social development. You will collaborate closely with teaching and therapeutic staff to implement SEMH-informed strategies, monitor pupil progress and adjust approaches where necessary.

You will develop trusting and respectful relationships with students, celebrating progress and successes, and help maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive environment in line with safeguarding practices.

What We Offer

This is a supportive and collaborative workplace within a Trust that values professional development, including SEMH safe haven training and safeguarding conferences. The school provides an evidence-based and values-led culture, with flexible contract options including short-term, long-term, part-time, full-time and permanent roles.

Pay rates are approximately £13.60 per hour.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals with experience or a strong interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs. You should have excellent communication skills for building rapport and working effectively with colleagues, emotional resilience, and confidence using nurturing, structured approaches when supporting challenging behaviour.

A strong commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusion is essential. A relevant qualification such as Level 2 or Level 3 in Social Care, Youth Work or Counselling is desirable, although demonstrable relevant experience will also be considered.
