Our client installs reliable, well designed, and easy to deliver AV systems. As an AV Design Engineer, you will play a key role in transforming customer and sales requirements into clear, accurate, and practical AV designs that support both commercial success and operational delivery.
This role focuses on technical design, documentation, and collaboration. You will work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Technical Support, and Procurement teams to ensure systems are well specified, well documented, and ready to be delivered right the first time. You will also collaborate with external contractors and end clients.
As our AV Design Engineer, you will:
• Produce high quality AV system designs and documentation
• Support sales, tenders, and project delivery with accurate technical input
• Act as a technical bridge between commercial and operational teams
• Help ensure consistency, quality, and clarity across all AV designs
Role Responsibilities
• Provide accurate and timely AV system designs, drawings, documentation, and pricing to support Business Development and Engineering/Support teams.
• Support the Business Development team with technical input, quotations, and feasibility advice.
• Assist with tenders and bids by contributing designs, specifications, and supporting documentation.
• Support AV projects throughout their lifecycle—from early design through construction to final handover—across both office-based and on-site activities.
• Conduct site surveys to gather all necessary technical and environmental information.
• Facilitate and confidently lead meetings with contractors and end clients, including presenting initial design concepts.
• Create comprehensive design packages, including:
o System schematics and signal flow diagrams
o Cabling schemes and rack layouts
o Mechanical construction and custom metalwork drawings
o General arrangements, sections, and elevation drawings
• Lead the creation and maintenance of project documentation, manuals, handover packs, and training materials.
• Maintain and update ERP and CRM systems to support monitoring, reporting, and seamless handovers between teams.
• Communicate clearly and responsively with customers and internal stakeholders throughout the design and delivery process.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Technical Support, Procurement, Business Development, and Customer Success teams to ensure designs are practical and deliverable.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of the AV marketplace, suppliers, and systems.
• Maintain a solid understanding of basic IT systems and how they integrate with AV solutions.
Experience Required
• Experience in AV design, engineering, or technical pre sales, or a strong foundation in AV systems and documentation.
• Confidence in producing detailed technical drawings, schematics, and system documentation (e.g., AutoCAD, 3D modelling/SketchUp).
• A methodical, detail focused approach to design and documentation.
• The ability to work collaboratively with Business Development, Engineering, and Technical Support teams.
• Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical details to both technical and non technical audiences.
• A practical mindset, designing solutions suited to real world environments.
• Curiosity and motivation to keep learning about AV technologies, systems, and industry developments.
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
