Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant
Start Date: ASAP | Location: Rochdale, Greater Manchester | Pay: £95.00 to £110 per day (depending on experience)
About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join schools in Rochdale. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a busy school environment and enjoys making a real difference in children’s lives. You will be supporting students with behavioural, social, and emotional needs, helping them access learning and achieve their full potential.
This role is suitable for individuals with experience in schools, working with students who may have Autism, ADHD, challenging behaviour, or social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
Key Responsibilities
• Support students with behavioural challenges to engage positively in learning.
• Implement behaviour management strategies under the guidance of teachers and SENCOs.
• Provide 1:1 or small group support for students needing extra guidance.
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Support students’ social and emotional development, helping them build confidence and resilience.
• Liaise with teaching staff to report progress, incidents, and observations.
• Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources, and school routines.
What We’re Looking For
• Previous experience supporting students with behavioural, social, or emotional needs.
• Knowledge of positive behaviour management strategies.
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexible and adaptable approach to meet the varying needs of students.
Qualifications & Desirable Skills
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare, Education, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working with SEMH, ASD, or ADHD students is highly desirable.
• First Aid and safeguarding training is advantageous.
