Construction Teaching Assistant – SEMH Secondary School
Location: Sutton
Hours: 8.30am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday
Start: ASAP or September
Pay: Competitive, depending on experience
We are currently recruiting for a Construction Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEMH secondary school in Sutton. This is a full-time role working with students aged 11–16 who present with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs.
Key responsibilities:
Supporting students in practical construction sessions including bricklaying, tiling and carpentry
Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management
Helping students to remain focused and engaged in hands-on learning
Promoting positive behaviour and managing challenging behaviour confidently and calmly
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience in construction trades such as bricklaying, tiling, or carpentry
Previous experience supporting young people in a classroom or alternative provision setting
A strong, resilient approach to working with challenging behaviour
A passion for vocational learning and helping students develop practical life skills
