Description
Our client, based in Sussex, is seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Officer with strong expertise across all areas of Statutory Nuisance, including noise, pest control, drainage, and wider environmental protection matters. This is a contract opportunity offering an initial 12 weeks (with the potential for extension), a competitive rate of up to £45 per hour, and a flexible hybrid working pattern of 3 to 5 days per week. It’s a great opportunity to join a small, supportive team in a fully operational role, managing your own caseload across a varied district.
The role will focus on investigating and resolving statutory nuisance complaints under the Environmental Protection Act, including domestic, commercial, and construction noise cases. You will be responsible for evidence gathering, monitoring, and taking enforcement action where necessary, as well as handling pest control issues, drainage complaints, and general environmental protection enquiries. The position also involves preparing and serving legal notices, maintaining accurate case records, liaising with residents and stakeholders, and supporting potential legal proceedings where required, with a mix of on-site inspections and hybrid working.
While no formal qualifications are required, candidates must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience within a local authority environmental health or environmental protection team, with strong working knowledge across statutory nuisance and enforcement processes. Senior EHOs will be considered; however, this is a non-managerial role within a small team, so a hands-on approach is essential. The role offers flexibility across 3–5 days per week
