Experienced SEND Learning Support Assistant – Specialist College – Haringey

Axcis Education is working with a vibrant specialist college in Haringey, currently looking to recruit an experienced SEND Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. This full-time position offers an excellent opportunity to make a real impact supporting students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
Role Overview:
You will work closely with students on a one-to-one and small group basis, supporting their communication, sensory needs, and life skills development. Collaborating with a skilled team of teachers, therapists, and support staff, you will help implement highly individualised education plans tailored to each student's needs. The role also involves providing personal care and mobility support, always prioritising dignity and independence.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver personalised support to students with PMLD, both individually and in small groups.
Assist in delivering sensory-based and life-skills-focused learning activities.
Support the use of alternative communication methods (such as PECS, Makaton, or communication aids).
Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure consistency and high-quality support.
Provide personal care and mobility assistance with sensitivity and respect.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Strong experience working with students with PMLD or similar complex needs, ideally in an educational setting.
A patient, resilient, and proactive approach to supporting vulnerable young people.
Understanding or experience of alternative communication systems (desirable).
A valid, enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
