Are you a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience supporting young people with autism and learning disabilities?
This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a specialist college in central Bath, supporting students with additional needs to access learning, develop independence, and build confidence in a structured and supportive environment.
About the Role
As a Therapeutic Support Assistant, you will work closely with students in the classroom, providing consistent, person-centred support tailored to their individual needs.
You will use structured, relational, and autism-informed approaches to help students engage with learning, develop communication skills, and manage daily routines.
About the Setting
This specialist college supports young people with:
• Autism (ASC)
• Moderate to severe learning disabilities
• Communication and sensory needs
• Additional support needs linked to anxiety or past experiences
The environment is structured, predictable, and highly supportive, with a strong focus on routine, communication, and student wellbeing.
Staff work collaboratively with therapists, behaviour specialists, and support teams to ensure every student can access education in a way that works for them.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide in-class support tailored to individual learning and communication needs
• Support students with routines, transitions, and engagement in lessons
• Use autism-informed strategies (visual supports, structured approaches)
• Support emotional regulation in a calm and consistent manner
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
• Encourage independence, confidence, and life skills
What You’ll Gain

• Patient, proactive, and comfortable supporting additional needs
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Understanding or interest in autism and neurodiversity
• DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
