Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant | Fishponds | Full Time | September Start | £14.25 per hour
Have you recently graduated and want to start a career where you can make a genuine difference?
Axcis Education is recruiting a Graduate Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged 5 to 16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs at a specialist alternative provision in Fishponds.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, starting in September. Following a successful 16-week settling-in period, the position will become permanent.
This is not a typical classroom role. Many pupils have experienced trauma, exclusion or significant barriers to education, meaning they can display behaviours that challenge. Your role will be to build positive relationships, provide consistency and help pupils regulate their emotions so they can re-engage with learning.
The school was recognised as Good in its latest Ofsted inspection, with inspectors praising the ambitious curriculum, strong relationships between staff and pupils, high expectations and the school's commitment to helping young people overcome barriers and prepare for successful futures. The school combines academic learning with therapeutic support, creating an environment where pupils feel safe, valued and understood.
Why graduates make great Teaching Assistants
Whatever subject you studied, your degree has developed skills that are invaluable in education, including communication, resilience, problem-solving, critical thinking and the ability to build trust with others.
This role is particularly suited to graduates considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, social work, youth justice, mental health or probation. You'll gain first-hand experience of behaviour support, trauma-informed practice, de-escalation strategies and relationship-based interventions that simply can't be learned in a lecture theatre.
We're looking for graduates with patience, confidence, resilience and a genuine belief that every young person deserves another chance. Previous school experience isn't essential. Your character, motivation and willingness to learn are far more important.
What you'll receive
• £14.25 per hour
• Full-time, term-time hours
• September start
• Permanent role after 16 weeks
• Ongoing support from your dedicated Axcis consultant
• Outstanding experience for graduates considering careers in education, psychology, youth justice or social care
• The opportunity to make a life-changing difference every day
