Description

Axcis are working with a setting looking to appoint a dedicated and passionate Learning Support & Intervention Practitioner to join their team. This hybrid role is designed to meet the evolving needs of the students and school, combining the support-based responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant with the instructional duties of a Tutor. You will work with some of their most vulnerable learners, delivering high-quality education and holistic support both 1:1 and in small groups, on and off-site

You will play a vital role in the development of the alternative provision offer, helping every student reach their potential academically, socially and emotionally, regardless of their starting point.

? The hours are Mon-Thurs 8.30-4.30, Fri 8.30-4.00 (totalling 37 hours)
? Based in Colchester, CO2
? Start date: January 2026

JOB PURPOSE:

? To support and deliver individualised education programmes under the professional direction of teaching staff and the SENCo.
? To assess and record students' progress and contribute to planning next steps in their learning.
? To support students in overcoming barriers related to trauma, SEND, SEMH, or previous adverse experiences.
? To develop and deliver teaching and learning that nurtures self-belief, emotional literacy, and resilience.
? To contribute to curriculum design and student engagement activities.
? To support parents and carers in positively engaging with their child’s learning.
? The role may be based within the main school setting or within an agreed destination outside of school, depending on the identified needs of the students and the school at that time.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

? Establish positive, trusting relationships with students and parents, and set high expectations.
? Work flexibly to support the emotional and academic development of pupils, including personalised learning plans.
? Assist in the planning and delivery of structured lessons and interventions.
? Use ICT and online platforms to support learning, tracking and reporting.
Support and supervise students on off-site learning (e.g. outdoor learning, Team Kinetix).
? Provide written and verbal feedback on pupil progress using the school systems.
? Engage with parents/carers through regular communication and meetings.
? Support attendance at multi-agency meetings and contribute to reviews of EHCPs when required
? Step in for absent colleagues and assist with covering lessons as needed (work will be provided).
? Participate in staff development, training and school events.
? Carry out administrative duties and maintain confidential records as required.
? Be available to work flexible hours to attend necessary meetings or events.
? Hold a valid UK driving licence and use of a car for travel (business insurance required).

EXPERIENCE:

? Must have experience working in secondary education
? A good understanding of trauma perceptive practice (TPP) and the impact of adversity on child development.
? Experience working with students with SEMH and SEND, preferably in an alternative or specialist provision.
? Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to maintain a calm and reflective presence.
