Mental Health Support Assistant – Primary & Secondary (Classroom-Based)

Axcis Education – Full Time | 8:30am–3:40pm

Axcis Education is looking for compassionate, patient and resilient Mental Health Support Assistants to work within a specialist SEMH school that is recruiting across both its Primary and Secondary phases. This role is ideal for individuals who are committed to supporting children and young people with complex social, emotional and mental health needs.

About the Role

As part of the classroom team, you will help students with a wide range of SEMH needs such as anxiety, trauma, low mood, ADHD and Autism. Classes are deliberately small (usually 8–10 pupils) and benefit from high levels of staffing, allowing each student to receive personalised support throughout the day.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support
• Using a nurturing, trauma-informed approach to help pupils regulate and participate in learning
• Supporting positive behaviour through consistent, calm strategies
• Building safe and trusting relationships with students who may display challenging behaviours
• Working alongside teachers and SEN specialists to implement effective support plans
• Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, independence and practical life skills

•Who We’re Looking For: We are seeking candidates with experience supporting individuals who present with mental health or behavioural challenges. School experience is helpful but not essential. We welcome applicants with backgrounds such as:

• Mental Health or Wellbeing Support
• Youth or Community Work
• Psychology or Counselling
• Social Care
• SEN or SEND Classroom Support

Why Work with Axcis Education?
• A dedicated consultant who understands your needs and works closely with you
• A range of long-term opportunities within specialist settings
• Access to professional development in SEMH, behaviour support and safeguarding
• The chance to make a meaningful, long-lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable young people
