Description

Looking for a role where you can actually make a difference?

Are you the kind of person who connects with others through movement, creativity or just good old-fashioned kindness? Do you thrive when you’re helping young people feel seen, heard and supported — especially those who learn a bit differently or need a little more patience and understanding?

We’re on the lookout for energetic, emotionally intelligent and flexible people to support young adults with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism and mental health needs in a further education setting. This is not your typical classroom assistant job — and that’s the beauty of it.

What you'll be doing:
• Supporting learners 1:1 or in small groups — whether that’s in a classroom, sports hall, sensory space or even outdoors.
• Encouraging independence, self-belief and emotional resilience (not just focusing on academic tasks).
• Using creative or active approaches to keep students engaged — sports, movement, music, art or hands-on learning go a long way here.
• Helping students regulate emotions, manage anxiety and feel safe enough to thrive.
• Working closely with teachers, therapists and families to implement learning plans that actually make sense for each individual.

Who this role suits:
We’ve seen amazing people come into this from sports coaching, creative arts, youth work, personal care, psychology backgrounds or just from having a genuine passion for helping others.

You’ll love this job if you:
• Are empathetic, consistent and not phased by challenging behaviour or big emotions.
• Have some experience supporting people with SEND, ASD, or SEMH (in any setting — education, care, community, sports).
• Are hands-on and love variety — no two days will ever be the same.
• Can stay calm and grounded even when things feel a bit chaotic.
• Communicate well, work as part of a team, and are open to learning.

Quick info:
• Hours: Monday–Friday, 9am–4:30pm
• Pay: From £13-17/per hour (based on experience)
• Start: September– long-term opportunities available (and potential to go permanent with the provision)
• Location: Based at a supportive, inclusive college campus with fantastic facilities for learners with additional needs
• DBS required: Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Axcis

Why join us?
• You’ll be part of a team that truly values your ideas, energy and input — not just a number on a rota.
• Ongoing training and CPD in autism, behaviour, mental health and more.
• Real job satisfaction — you’ll see the impact of your support every single day.
• A great stepping stone into teaching, therapy, youth work or psychology careers — or a long-term role for those who find their calling here.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy doing (and not just another job), we’d love to hear from you.
