An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mobile RAN Network Engineer to join a leading telecommunications provider in Jersey.
This role sits within the Mobile Engineering team, where you’ll play a key part in supporting the island’s mobile network and ensuring high-quality service delivery. The position also includes ad-hoc support for the Jersey Access Network when required.
The Role
The successful candidate will be part of a small, dedicated team responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of mobile and microwave transmission networks.
You’ll also oversee the design, planning, and build of new mobile RAN sites, helping to expand coverage and improve network performance across Jersey.
This is a hands-on, technically demanding position that requires strong practical knowledge, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities
• Support and develop the mobile and microwave transmission network.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of new mobile RAN sites — from site identification and planning to build and go-live.
• Manage licences and self-coordinated point-to-point microwave transmission links.
• Conduct fault identification, resolution, and preventative maintenance.
• Carry out mast and tower climbs for operational and maintenance tasks.
• Participate in a callout rota providing out-of-hours cover (including nights, weekends, and Bank Holidays).
Key Skills & Experience
• Minimum 10 years’ experience supporting modern communications networks (up to 5G).
• In-depth knowledge of mobile technology, microwave transmission, and RAN backhaul.
• Strong understanding of the OFCOM licensing process.
• Proven experience managing RAN site builds, including planning applications, civils, and final integration.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills with a hands-on approach.
• Valid climbing certifications (MATS RF Awareness, Tower Rescue).
• Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Desirable:
• CCNA, CompTIA, or equivalent professional qualification.
• ITIL familiarity.
• Experience in mobile network support and/or fibre delivery to customers.
