The Role
As a PHP Developer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing and expanding an in-house system that underpins all operational functions across the group. This web and app-based platform supports a wide range of business-critical processes including:

CRM and job allocation
Operational costings and scheduling
Form creation and databasing
HR functions

The long-term aim is to commercialise the system and offer it to other civil engineering organisations, making this a rare opportunity to contribute to a product with significant future potential.
This is an office-based position involving close collaboration with Directors, Senior Management, and various operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design, code, test, and debug software applications ensuring high performance and efficient functionality
Maintain and enhance existing systems, identifying and delivering improvements
Integrate third-party components, software, and APIs as required
Ensure seamless integration between internal and external systems
Provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and implement bug fixes
Assist in training staff to use applications effectively
Create and maintain technical documentation and user guides
Ensure compliance with industry standards and data security requirements
Collaborate with front-end developers and stakeholders to integrate user-facing elements
Optimise applications for speed, scalability, and reliability
Follow best practices for version control, testing, and deployment
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies


Technical Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a PHP Developer
Strong knowledge of PHP and experience with the TALL stack (Tailwind, Alpine.js, Laravel, Livewire) and the LAMP stack
Proficiency with PHP frameworks (Laravel preferred; Symfony or CodeIgniter beneficial)
Good understanding of Livewire within the TALL stack
Experience with test-driven development (PHPUnit, feature tests, etc.)
Ability to administrate cloud-hosted Linux servers and MySQL databases — ideally AWS
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Ability to self-manage using tools such as JIRA or similar platforms
