Description

Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience working with children and young people with complex needs?

We are working with a highly specialist SEND school supporting pupils aged 2–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). Many pupils have autism, communication needs and complex sensory profiles, making this an ideal environment to develop your understanding of behaviour, communication and child development in practice.

This setting takes a holistic, therapeutic approach, with a strong focus on communication, sensory regulation and relationship-based learning. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, working alongside experienced educators and therapists.

The Role

This is a highly practical and rewarding role where you will:

Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs
Support pupils with communication and interaction, using alternative methods such as visual supports and sensory approaches
Assist with the delivery of individualised learning programmes
Observe and respond to behaviour as communication, supporting emotional regulation
Work closely with teaching staff and therapists to support holistic development

You will gain exposure to:

PMLD and complex needs education
Communication strategies and sensory integration approaches
Multi-disciplinary working (education, therapy, care)
EHCP-led support and personalised learning
Who This Would Suit

This role is ideal for:

Psychology graduates
Individuals considering careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy or Teaching
Those with an interest in SEND, behaviour and child development

You will be:

Curious, reflective and eager to learn
Patient, observant and able to build strong relationships
Comfortable working in a hands-on, practical environment
Why This Role?

This is an excellent opportunity to gain relevant, transferable experience that will strengthen applications for:

Postgraduate study (e.g. Educational Psychology)
Teacher training (PGCE)
Therapy-based careers

You will also benefit from ongoing training, support and development, with opportunities for both flexible work and long-term progression.
