Level 7 Speech and Language Therapist – Kingston upon Thames, Surrey

The Role – Speech and Language Therapist

As a Speech and Language Therapist in Kingston upon Thames, you will deliver specialist speech and language therapy interventions to pupils with highly complex communication and learning needs. Working as part of a multidisciplinary therapy team, you will provide individual, group, joint, and teacher-directed therapy sessions tailored to each student’s educational and developmental programme.

The successful Speech and Language Therapist will play a key role in helping students develop communication skills, access learning, and maximise independence within a specialist educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Speech and Language Therapist in Kingston upon Thames, your responsibilities will include:

Delivering specialist speech and language therapy assessments, diagnosis, and interventions for children with complex needs
Managing a highly complex caseload of pupils with physical disabilities, SLD, PMLD, and communication difficulties
Planning and implementing individual and group therapy programmes tailored to each student’s needs
Supporting pupils with feeding and communication during snack and lunch times
Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate communication targets into educational programmes
Developing and adapting AAC resources, communication aids, PODD books, and symbol systems
Providing training and guidance to staff and families on communication strategies including PECS, AAC, Eye Gaze, and Makaton
Writing professional reports and contributing to annual reviews and EHCP processes
Supervising SALT Assistants and supporting wider staff with communication strategies across the school
Skills and Knowledge Required

The ideal Speech and Language Therapist in Surrey will demonstrate:

Excellent understanding of speech, language, and communication needs within SEND settings
Strong knowledge of AAC systems, communication aids, symbols, and assistive technologies
Experience delivering evidence-based interventions for children with complex physical and learning needs
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with pupils, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Strong organisational and caseload management abilities
Confidence using IT systems including report writing and digital communication resources
The ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within a busy specialist school environment
Experience and Qualifications

To be considered for this Speech and Language Therapist role in Kingston upon Thames, you must have:

A recognised Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
HCPC registration as a practising Speech and Language Therapist
Level 7 qualification or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
Experience supporting children with physical disabilities, SLD, PMLD, ASD, or complex communication needs
Experience working within education, healthcare, or multidisciplinary SEND environments
Knowledge or experience of PECS, AAC, Eye Gaze, PODD, or Makaton is highly desirable
A commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice
