School Support Worker
Axcis Education are working closely with a vibrant and inclusive independent special needs school located in the heart of Bath, Somerset. They ride and dedicate themselves in creating a nurturing environment where every child is empowered to reach their full potential. Their school community is looking for a compassionate and adaptable School Support Worker to join our team and provide excellent teaching assistant support.
Key Responsibilities of a School Support Worker:
- Assist in the delivery of educational activities under the guidance of the teaching staff, adapting approaches to meet the individual needs of pupils with various learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Support the emotional, social, and behavioural development of students, modelling positive behaviours and employing strategies to foster a supportive and constructive learning environment.
- Work in partnership with classroom teachers to prepare materials and set up equipment ensuring an organized and student-ready learning space.
- Promote and assist in monitoring the inclusion of all pupils in the learning activities and school community.
- Provide one-to-one support and small group work to help students overcome barriers to learning.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, communicating effectively with teachers and the wider educational team.
- Administer (or support children in administering) medication and provide medical interventions as required, following proper training and school policies.
- Contribute positively to the wider life of the school community, participating in events and activities beyond the classroom.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the school’s policies and procedures including child protection and safeguarding standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- NVQ Level 2/3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs, is advantageous.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Understanding of the principles of child development and learning processes.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- First Aid training is a plus.
