Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SEMH
Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester
Contract: Full-time, term-time only (Monday to Friday)
Pay Rate: £95.00 to £105.00 per day, experiance dependant
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is both challenging and deeply rewarding, requiring patience, emotional intelligence, and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable learners.
You will work closely with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour, anxiety, trauma-related needs, or difficulties regulating emotions.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
• Support emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning
• Implement behaviour support plans and therapeutic strategies
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
• Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times
The Ideal Candidate
• Experience supporting children with SEMH, behaviour, or trauma-related needs
• Calm, empathetic, and emotionally resilient
• Able to manage challenging behaviour positively and safely
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Training in Team Teach, de-escalation, or trauma-informed practice is desirable
