Description
Teaching Assistant – Full Time (SEND / SEMH)
Location: Paignton, Devon
Pay: £90 – £95 per day
Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing
Are you an experienced and compassionate Teaching Assistant looking for a new challenge in a truly rewarding setting? We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our exceptional SEND school in Paignton, supporting pupils aged 7–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of additional complex learning difficulties.
Our mixed-gender school provides a nurturing, structured and inclusive environment for pupils who have ongoing SEMH difficulties, are known to CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), and often have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Many of our learners also present with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and may have experienced significant gaps in their learning due to challenges with mainstream education.
We are looking for a calm, resilient and empathetic individual who can provide high-quality support to help our pupils engage with learning, develop confidence and achieve both academically and personally. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to deliver tailored interventions and classroom support designed around each pupil’s individual needs.
Your role will involve:
• Supporting pupils with SEMH and complex SEND in both 1:1 and group settings
• Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation through nurturing and consistent strategies
• Assisting with academic learning, exam preparation and personal development
• Helping pupils re-engage with education by creating a supportive and trusting learning environment
• Contributing to wider school life, including enrichment and community activities
At our Paignton school, learning extends far beyond the classroom. We place great importance on developing independent life skills, teamwork, and a sense of community responsibility. Our pupils take part in volunteering projects, charity events, work experience placements, and school trips, all designed to build confidence, social awareness and resilience for life beyond education.
We welcome applications from candidates who:
• Have prior experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or complex SEND
• Can demonstrate empathy, patience and strong behaviour management skills
• Thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment
• Hold relevant qualifications or training in SEND (desirable but not essential)
In return, we offer a competitive daily rate of £90–£95, opportunities for ongoing professional development, and the chance to make a tangible difference every single day.
If you are passionate about helping young people overcome challenges and achieve their potential, we would love to hear from you.
Join us in Paignton – and help shape brighter futures for learners who need it most.
