Make a Difference in a Specialist School

Axcis Education is proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming specialist school in Dawlish to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 class from September.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly supportive team in a well-resourced specialist setting, working with pupils with Autism, complex learning needs, communication difficulties, and non-verbal or pre-verbal profiles. If you're passionate about inclusive education and enjoy helping children reach their full potential, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

You'll be joining a nurturing Year 2 class of 8 pupils, supported by an experienced team consisting of one class teacher and three Teaching Assistants. This role will focus on supporting a new pupil joining the class, helping them settle into school life, engage with learning, and build positive relationships.

The classroom is active, engaging, and can be lively at times, so we're looking for someone who is calm, adaptable, and confident working in a busy environment.

Key Responsibilities
Support a pupil with Autism and complex additional needs throughout the school day.
Encourage communication, engagement, and independence using personalised strategies.
Assist with classroom activities, sensory learning, and play-based education.
Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to meet individual learning goals.
Help pupils develop confidence, social skills, and emotional wellbeing.
About You

We're looking for someone who is:

Passionate about supporting children with SEND.
Proactive, positive, and able to use their initiative.
Comfortable working in a busy and sometimes noisy classroom.
Patient, calm, and resilient when supporting children with complex needs.
Experienced working with children or young people with additional needs (desirable but not essential).
A strong team player with excellent communication skills.
Outstanding Facilities

This specialist school offers an exceptional learning environment with purpose-built facilities, including:

Hydrotherapy swimming pool
Agricultural gardens with chickens and outdoor learning areas
Dedicated woodwork studio
Sensory rooms in every classroom
Two Forest School areas
A wide range of sensory resources, including fidget toys, adaptive equipment, and movement aids
Communication support through AAC devices, PECS, and visual timetables

These facilities provide pupils with enriching opportunities to learn, communicate, regulate their emotions, and develop essential life skills.

Why Join Axcis Education?
Competitive weekly pay.
Dedicated support from your own experienced Axcis consultant.
Access to ongoing CPD and specialist SEND training.
Opportunities to progress into long-term and permanent roles.
A wide range of specialist education opportunities across Devon and the South West.
