Axcis continues to support a large all-age, ASD-specific special school within the Erdington area. The schools caters to individuals aged 4 to 19 years with a primary diagnosis of Autism, their individual needs vary, however they do include challenging and/or distressing behaviour and non-verbal communication as well as individuals facing social emotional and mental health challenges.
The school is seeking dedicated and reliable teaching assistants to cover two permanent staff who will be on maternity leave for the whole of the 2025/26 academic year, with this in mind high levels of resilience and commitment to working for the whole for the whole of the academic year are required. Consistency is key for all children with SEND needs however this is ever more important for individuals with exceptional SEND needs.
Due to the high needs of the pupils, the team of teaching assistants will rotate in and out of working with the all pupils within the classroom throughout the day, this decision has been made by the school as they understand that it can become very challenging when working with specific individuals all day. With this in mind the ability to work independently and as part of a team is key.
This is a full-time role on a small group and 1:1 basis on an ongoing basis for the entirety of the 2025/26 academic year (September 2025 to July 2026).
Job details:
• Whole class support but working on a 1:1 or small group basis
• Working on a 1:1 basis with an child with exceptional SEND needs whom will display challenging behaviour
• Working independently and as part of a team
• Full time hours (8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Duration: Entirety of the 2025/26 academic year.

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
