Setting Out Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Setting Out Engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring construction projects are accurately set out and delivered to the highest standards. This position requires excellent technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with site teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within specification.
Key Responsibilities
-Carry out accurate setting out for construction works using GPS, total stations, and other surveying equipment.
-Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and site plans.
-Establish site control points, benchmarks, and reference grids.
-Verify dimensions, levels, and alignments before and during construction.
-Monitor construction progress and ensure work complies with design specifications and tolerances.
-Produce and maintain accurate site records, surveys, and as-built information.
-Liaise with project managers, site managers, subcontractors, and designers to resolve technical issues.
-Conduct quality assurance checks and assist with inspections.
-Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations.
-Support project planning by identifying potential engineering challenges and proposing practical solutions.
Essential Qualifications
-Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Surveying, or a related discipline.
-Valid CSCS Card.
-SMSTS or SSSTS certification
-Full UK Driving Licence.
-First Aid at Work certificate
Essential Experience
-Proven experience working as a Setting Out Engineer on civil engineering, infrastructure, groundworks, or building projects.
-Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering principles, and site practices.
-Experience using Leica, Trimble, or Topcon surveying equipment.
-Competent in using AutoCAD and interpreting engineering drawings.
-Experience carrying out topographical surveys and producing as-built records.
-Knowledge of quality control procedures and construction tolerances.
Skills & Knowledge
-Excellent understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Setting Out Engineer.
-Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
-High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
-Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
-Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
-Strong organisational and time management abilities.
-Confident problem-solver with a proactive approach.
