Description

Passive Fire Surveyor – Fire Doors, Fire Stopping & Compartmentation
Location: Birmingham & West Midlands
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 + Bonus (Up to 50% of Annual Salary)

The Opportunity

This is an exceptional opportunity to join one of the UK's fastest-growing fire safety specialists, partnering with over 80% of the UK's Housing Associations and Local Authorities. The business delivers pragmatic, proportionate fire safety solutions across the housing and NHS sectors, with a strong reputation for technical excellence and doing things the right way.

This is not your average surveying role. You will be the eyes on the ground — the quality of your surveys directly shapes whether projects are priced right, delivered right and ultimately makes residents safer. The business asks a lot and gives a lot back, with one of the most impressive benefits packages in the sector including a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary for those who go above and beyond.

The Role

As Passive Fire Surveyor, you will carry out fire door, fire stopping and compartmentation surveys across social housing and NHS environments in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, enabling project teams to accurately price and plan remedial works. You will work in line with BM TRADA standards and company methodology, recording all activity accurately in SimPRO and working collaboratively with the Pre-Construction team to maximise the number and quality of surveys completed each day.

This role would also suit an experienced carpenter or construction professional with a strong trade background who is ready to convert into a surveying position — full training and development support is provided.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out fire door, fire stopping and compartmentation surveys to enable accurate pricing and planning of remedial works
Survey in line with BM TRADA standards and company methodology — doing it right first time, every time
Record all findings accurately in SimPRO including photos, asset records and data updates
Audit completed remedial works to confirm scope has been delivered and works meet accreditation body guidance
Provide informal guidance to clients' fire officers and maintenance surveyors on fire stopping and fire door principles
Maximise resident access using best-practice engagement methods
Work collaboratively with Pre-Construction Assistants to maximise survey output and quality
Complete all required H&S documentation, RAMS and permits to work
Identify and flag risks to the business at every stage of the pre-construction phase
Attend weekly team meetings and visit the Birmingham office at least once per week
Support continuous improvement across the pre-construction function

What We're Looking For

Experience in fire door, fire stopping or compartmentation surveying — essential
Alternatively a strong carpenter or construction background ready to convert into surveying — considered
An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly first time
Confident and outgoing personality with excellent interpersonal skills — residents need to trust you enough to let you into their home
Detail-oriented with a right-first-time approach to every survey
Comfortable using SimPRO or similar survey software — desirable
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Strong time management and ability to manage own workload under pressure
Based within commutable distance of Birmingham with flexibility to travel across the West Midlands
Full UK Driving Licence — required
Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning
