Teaching Assistant – SEMH & Behaviour Support
Location: Knowsley
Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

A welcoming and supportive secondary school in Knowsley is seeking a dedicated SEMH & Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from the end of February. This long-term opportunity is ideal for someone who can remain calm under pressure, build strong relationships, and provide the consistency and understanding that young people with SEMH needs truly benefit from.
The Role
In this role, you will:
• Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges
• Support the delivery and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure personalised, purposeful learning
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using clear boundaries, de-escalation strategies, and consistent encouragement
• Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and valued
• Build strong, trusting relationships that support both academic progress and personal development
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external professionals to monitor progress and adapt support strategies
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
• Experienced in supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
• Calm, emotionally resilient, and confident in high-pressure situations
• A strong communicator who can build rapport quickly and effectively
• Familiar with behaviour management strategies, trauma-informed practice, or restorative approaches
• Passionate about helping every student access education and reach their full potential
