Axcis Education is currently working with a large all-age special school within the Erdington area. The schools caters to individuals aged 4 to 19 years with a main diagnosis of Autism, their specific needs vary vastly but examples include challenging and/or distressing behaviour and non-verbal communication as well as individuals facing social emotional and mental health challenges.
The school are seeking a dedicated and reliable teaching assistant with high levels of resilience and commitment as consistency is key for all children with SEND needs however this is ever more important for individuals with exceptional SEND needs. The successful candidate will be working with an individual with exceptional special needs; whom can display very challenging behaviour.
Due to the high needs of the pupil, the team of teaching assistants will rotate in and out of working with the pupil and other 1:1 or small groups throughout the day, this decision has been made by the school as they understand the role would be too tough for one person all day. With this in mind the ability to work independently and as part of a team is key.
This is a full-time role on a small group and 1:1 basis on an ongoing basis for remainder of this academic year to return to the school in September.
Job details:
• Whole class support but working on a 1:1 or small group basis
• Working on a 1:1 basis with an child with exceptions SEND needs whom will display challenging behaviour
• Working independently and as part of a team
• Full time hours (8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday)
• Ongoing basis for remainder of the 2024/25 academic year and to return in September (after the summer holidays)
• Start date – Monday 2nd June 2025
Requirements:
• Experience in working on a one to one basis – Essential
• Experience of working with pupils with complex ASD – Essential
• Experience of working with individuals whom display challenging behaviour – Essential
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential
• Minimum of 2 good references – Essential
